Gliding Through July

Uncategorized Jul 15, 2021

This month is flying by as fast as the birds fly overhead. I often sit in my garden and watch the birds as they swoop in and out. There is something so magical in their flight. And as I pondered their beauty, I realized that what caught my attention was how they glide.

They have a goal, to get to my bird feeder. They see the destination. And they use what they have, their winds, to guide them. Sometimes the hit the bird feeder exactly as intended, and sometimes they miss it. But they use their wings and try again.

How wonderful! Why, because we too can glide to our goals like the birds.

When we know what our goals are and when we can visualize them, we know what we need to strategize how to get there. We may not always hit our target the first time, but we can glide around and try again.

So, as you read through my notes this week be thinking, how are you "gliding through"?

With that, let's catch up on what I've been up to this week...

Reading

This week I am reading about the amazing Zaila Avant-garde. You might have heard about her—she is the 14-year-old Scripps National Spelling Bee winner. What you might not know is that she is very accomplished young woman with 3 Guinness World Records and a passion for basketball and science. Click here to read more.

As I was reading about her accomplishments, I thought about how she has all the qualities of a successful business owner: she is curious and loves to read and study. She has a growth mindset and she definitely falls into the infinite game thinking category of Simon Sinek. She is determined and understands the importance of setting goals and strategic thinking. She has a wonderful sense of humor (witness her question during the final word challenge) and I definitely got the sense that she would easily relate to and would lead the people around her. I’m definitely going to be following her and I’m pretty sure I’ll be continuously impressed and inspired.

Following

I was just introduced to a GREAT podcast called Unstuck, hosted by Shawn Mynar. Click here for more information. Thanks Johanna Sanchez for the recommendation! From the podcast website: This is a podcast “that guides you through both the inner work and outer strategies required to get you unstuck on your path to building an impactful, profitable business.”

Connecting

Don’t you just love it when someone who used to be a part of your team comes back again? I’m so happy that she reached out, we had dinner and she mentioned that she is looking for work. Lightbulbs and fireworks went off in my head because I was thinking about looking for someone who has her skills to add to my team. And voila (!) the universe put her in my path. The good news is that she knows us, has been following us and that reduces the learning and on boarding curve. I’m going to do a special blog on my AMAZING team very soon and you’ll get to meet the people behind our brands. So my question to you is this: is there someone from your past who you can count on to effect your future?

Celebrating

Amazing and unsolicited reviews of my first book, The Decision to Scale: 25 Tips for Women-Owned Businesses Looking to Grow. It always makes my heart sing when I hear someone tell me that she loves that she can use the book as a reference and go to the exact chapter she needs. Even more impressive is when someone sends me a photo of herself with the mind maps that she did following the instructions from the book. Wow. Just wow! Book number 2 is on schedule for a September launch and book number 3 will be published during the first quarter of 2022. And you want to hear a secret? I have started outlining two other books… If you’re wondering how this is possible (because like you, I have just 24 hours in a day, a full-time job and a family that I get to spend time with) the answer is simple: find something you are passionate about and start blogging. Yes, blogging. That’s how the first 3 books have come about. I am pulling material for the books from 86 different blogs I wrote. And I found a formula that works: 25 tips with educational information, insight, stories and worksheets. So, there you have it, friends—you too can write books that inspire and motivate and show people how to do something for themselves. Need some inspiration? Contact me and before you know it, we will be celebrating together because I know I can help you with some strategic thinking and purposeful intention.

So, once again I ask you, "how are you gliding"?

  • Do you see your target?
  • Can you visualize your goals?
  • How is your strategy?

One final question I ask you to ponder: "who can you ask for help?"

The biggest advice I give is to never try to go it alone. If you are stuck or need support, ask for it or go find it. This is one of the greatest gifts you can give to yourself and your business.

Let me know if you would like to schedule a quick call so we can put our heads together to help you generate what you need this month. Click here to schedule.

Wishing you peace and joy.
