Genuinely June

blog Jun 17, 2021

I must admit one of the most wonderful things about what I do is that I get to be "genuinely me". Every day, I have the opportunity to coach and guide women on their entrepreneurial journey utilizing my joy of reading, creating, and connecting.

I overheard one of our team members telling a new member, "you have to schedule a call with Nancy. You will leave with at least one new book, a link to a podcast, and a quote that you will never forget."

WOW! Just wow!

With that, let's catch up on what I've been up to this week...

Rain is good for me. I feel like I achieve clarity actually when it rains. The longer I have to sit and wait, the clearer my game becomes to me.” (Venus Williams)

What I am reading...“How To Make Yourself Work When You Just Don’t Want To,” by Heidi Grant. (click here

We’ve all been there, right?  You’re supposed to do something, but you keep putting it off… Then you feel guilty and upset. Well, it turns out we can change the script by figuring out why we’re procrastinating in the first place.  This article offers 3 new ways to look at what’s keeping you from getting something done:

  1. You’re afraid you will mess it up. Reframe this by adopting a “prevention focus, instead of thinking about how you can end up better off, you see the task as a way to hang on to what you’ve already got – to avoid loss.”
  2. You don’t really feel like doing it. Reframe this by ignoring your feelings and just starting the task.  Think about this from the article: “the most prolific artists, writers, and innovators have become so in part because of their reliance on work routines that forced them to put in a certain number of hours a day, no matter how uninspired (or, in many instances, hungover) they might have felt.” In other words, establish a routine and stick to it no matter how you feel!
  3. You think it’s going to be hard, boring or unpleasant. Reframe this by using “if-then planning” which helps you because it asks you to decide where and when you will do something.  From the article:  “By deciding in advance exactly what you’re going to do, and when and where you’re going to do it, there’s no deliberating when the time comes… It’s when we deliberate that willpower becomes necessary to make the tough choice.”

Who I am following...

Hidden Brain Podcasts, hosted by Shankar Vedantam—Interested in how your brain really works?  I’m always fascinated with topics about how we think and process information.  I recently heard a very interesting segment on coincidence called “What are the odds?”  The two researchers interviewed—a mathematician and a psychologist-- had some interesting insight on coincidence and why we think it’s so unusual.  It turns out that it’s not that unusual and has more to do with patterns that we are trying to explain. Connecting with...

This week I connected with the truly inspiring Monica Hernandez, owner of MAS Global. Click here to watch the replay of the session.  Monica shared her passion and the inspiration for her business as well as her decision to be a global company.  She also gave some great insight on how she handled the pandemic and the secret to her growth despite the challenges she faced.

What I am celebrating...

This week I celebrated the one-year anniversary of moving into my new house.  This is really meaningful to me because I went out on faith and I sold a house, bought a house, and moved to a new city in the middle of the pandemic.  And just like that (or so it seems), a year has passed.  I’ve put in a lot of love and care (in the form of repairs and updates) into this house and I’ve made it mine.
